Race venue info
The schematic for the Bohart base area shows key locations for the event.
Registration, packet pick-up and USSSA membership sign-ups will be held inside the ski shop/warming hut (north end).
Restrooms are located straight ahead from the end of the entrance road. Clothing drop and the awards ceremony and post-race activities will be
held in the new maintenance building to the west of the ski shop (across the pond).
Racer instructions
These race rules and instructions will be in your packet, and will be covered before race start. Please be sure you read them and
comply - we'd hate to have to disqualify anyone!
- Please avoid tromping on the groomed classic ski ruts (those parallel grooves along the groomed ski paths) as much as possible! It really messes
up the skiing, and the skiers pay to use the Bohart trails, too!
- Race starts in the Arena area, just south of the pond and ski shop, and finishes at the ski shop; 10K racers do the loop twice. Stay on course! The course is depicted
on the Race Location page, and there will be a map in your race packet. Follow the blue marker wands and
the direction signs with the Gallatin Gallop moose - watch out for red marker flags, or signs with a big red "X" - they mean you've gone off
course;
go back until you find the course again. We'll have no option but to disqualify anyone who doesn't complete the full, correct course.
- 10K starts at 11:00, and will do 2 loops of the course. 5K starts at 11:15, and does the course loop once. It’s possible the faster 5K runners will pass some of the
10K field. If you’re concerned about keeping tabs on your competitors, remember that 5K racers will have bib numbers less than 100, while 10K racers will use bib
numbers 101-200. The race clock will display the 10K race time; 5K racers should mentally subtract 15 minutes from the displayed time.
- Your race packet contains one HammerGel packet. There will also be HEED sports drink at the Start/Finish (which is also the mid-point of the 10K course),
but no other aid on the course. Drinks and food will be available in the Post-Race area in the Maintenance building. Please be sure to utilize the trash bags provided
for your refuse.
- We will present awards at the post-race area in the new maintenance building at 12:40, or as soon as everyone finishes the race. We will have a Prize Board that lists
the winners of some of our door prizes (look for your name to see if you won a prize), and we will do a live drawing for a handful of our top prizes – we’ve got some good
stuff, so be sure to be there (must be present to win, unless you’re a volunteer still working)! Please sign the Thank You letters we prepare, to be sent to our wonderful
sponsors who donate the stuff we all covet! We’ll also have hot coffee, cocoa, soup, and baked goods, so be sure to have a treat while acknowledging the award winners!
- USSSA regulations require all racers to utilize snowshoes with minimum dimensions of 7" x 20" and 120 square inches of surface area. At the race
director's discretion, if thin- or no-snow conditions prevail, racers may be allowed to race without snowshoes (i.e., a trail run); however, we've never
had such conditions at Bohart, and do not plan on ever using this option.
- All USSSA rules governing USSSA competitions will be in effect. A USSSA Handbook will be available at the race site for anyone who wishes to review it.
Clothing drop
Race packets will include plastic bags for storing extra clothing. Please mark your bag with your race number or name and drop off at the post-race
site (in the new maintenance building).
Age Divisions
The following age divisions will be used in each race: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. We will award medals for
1st and 2nd in each age division.
For all age-related purposes, entrants' ages will be determined as of December 31st, 2008 - note that this is consistent with age determination
for Montana Senior Olympics and USSSA National Championships qualification purposes. It's a change from what we've done in previous years, but it's just
simpler to work with one age number for each racer!
Awards
Awards will be presented to the top 2 finishers in each age category.

We will also award medals for the top 3 finishers in the Montana Senior Olympics Winter Games division, for those 45 and older.
Those qualifying to participate in the USSSA National Championships will be recognized separately.
Post-race activities
There will be post-race food and beverages available, and a prize give-away! We've got some great prizes again this year, so you
won't want to miss the drawing, held in conjunction with the awards ceremony - you must be present to win, though!
