Race results posted (Jan. 20th)
Results from the 2008 races have been posted!
Race day updates - PLEASE READ! (Jan. 20th)
Due to winds in town at 6 AM, and anticipated weather at Bohart, expect that the race course will be shortened to an approximately 3K loop, instead
of 5K. The course is roughly hourglass-shaped, with the narrow "waist" at Jane's Gate. If conditions at Bohart are severe, we will
cut out the part of the course that is beyond Jane's Gate, and have you just cut across to the last part of the course there (as you look at your
course map, this means turning left at Jane's Gate, instead of right).
The snow is deep and more is expected today. Windchills are expected to be below zero today, so be sure to bring clothes to cover up exposed skin. We ran short of blue marking flags, so the course will be marked with both blue and red flags.
Atlas demo snowshoes all taken! (Jan. 19th)
All our demo snowshoes have been reserved, so if you were thinking of coming up to sign up on race day, and haven't already made
your reservation with me, you'll need to get snowshoes from another source. For those with reservations, please
bring a driver's license or credit card to leave as collateral for your snowshoe loan - we will return these as soon as
the loaners are returned after the race!
Take a look at the XTERRA Winter World Championships! (Jan. 16th)
This year, the Rocky Mountain Region gets its turn to host the USSSA National Championships, and they'll be part of the XTERRA Winter World
Championships in Ogden/Snowbasin, Utah, March 7-9, 2008. This set of events includes a big multi-sport race, and citizen snowshoe races in addition
to the USSSA Championships (which require qualification). See the XTERRA flyer in your race packet, or go to the XTERRA Winter web site. In the USSSA rotation, the Rocky Mountain Region won't get the Championships back for a number of years, so
hop on down to Utah to take advantage of the relatively close location of this year's Championship events!
Age group calculation method changed (Jan. 15th)
In 2006 and 2007, we used two age categories in our results - the racer's age on race date was used to determine the age group for the
Gallatin Gallop race medals, and the racer's age on December 31st of that year was used for calculating age group
for the Montana Senior Olympics division, as well as USSSA National Championships qualification. It's just too confusing for us to keep
track of both numbers, so, as of the 2008 race, we are using the racer's age as of the last day of the calendar year for all age group
purposes! We hope everyone's OK with that!
Girls Outdoors and Great Harvest Bread Company donate prizes (Jan. 14th)
As in past years, the Gallop will offer up some nice prizes during the drawing at the race awards ceremony! Today, Girls Outdoors
and Great Harvest in Bozeman joined long-time Gallop supporter Fleet Feet Sports in donating useful prizes (hey, ya gotta have gear, and
ya gotta eat, right?!) for our event! Please check out our sponsors, and give them your support -
they make, or break, all the cool activities that go on in the Bozone!
